The Situation of Children in Mozambique
Around 16 million of the Mozambican population are children and adolescents under the age of 18, with 56% of children in primary school and 20% in secondary school and 1.2 million children of school age are out of school.
According to UNICEF and UNFPA, a series of vulnerabilities affect Mozambican children, including forced labor, juvenile crime, street begging, sexual violence, early marriages, child trafficking, chronic malnutrition, lack of access to drinking water, education and health. On the other hand, the early pregnancy rate is very high – 38%.
The Mar&Tone Foundation aspires to contribute to the realization of the rights and well-being of Mozambican adolescent children and young people through the promotion of education and life skills. In collaboration with the Government, civil society, the private sector, development partners and communities, the urgency in promoting initiatives that aim to contribute to the development of skills and competencies for children, adolescents and young people, especially the most disadvantaged, is imperative.
United for a bright future: Working together to improve lives.
